Success at the Hanns Voith Foundation Prize: Simon Eyselein Honored for Outstanding Master's Thesis

July 13, 2026

Great success for our institute: Our colleague Simon Eyselein has been awarded the prestigious Hanns Voith Foundation Prize in the "Hydropower" category. This prize recognizes excellent and innovative master thesis that demonstrate a strong thematic connection to the business areas of the Voith Group.

Mr. Eyselein convinced the jury with his Master's thesis titled "Geometry Optimization of a Turbine Using Numerical Flow Simulation and Deep Reinforcement Learning", completed at the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulic Machinery of the University of Stuttgart. His research combines state-of-the-art computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with pioneering machine learning approaches (Deep Reinforcement Learning) to sustainably optimize turbine efficiency in hydropower applications. This work marks a significant contribution to digitalization and performance enhancement in eco-friendly energy generation.

With these annual awards, the Hanns Voith Foundation aims to incentivize young scientists and takes on vital responsibility for the qualification of the next generation of academics in engineering and natural sciences.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Simon Eyselein on this outstanding achievement and are incredibly proud of this joint success!
