The range of hydraulic machines covers the complete life cycle of machines such as turbines, pumps, other power plant components and entire plants. This includes numerical and experimental optimization and investigations of operating behavior. Currently the following research projects are being worked on:

  • Investigations on an axial propeller turbine
  • Development of a small hydropower turbine
    • Small drop heights and high flow rates - these are the characteristics of axial turbines. The concept developed here should be universally applicable modular and thus cost-saving.
  • Development of a kinetic river turbine
  • Investigation of kinetic river turbines in open channels
  • Turbine design and numerical flow field simulation
    • Development of a design environment that allows a turbomachine to be quickly and efficiently designed and simulated.
  • Optimization of the inlet area of a river power plant
  • Simulation of transient flow instabilities
  • Development of a modular axial expansion turbine for energy recovery
  • Simulation of a fast operating transition of a pump turbine
  • Reference measurement on a Francis turbine with 2D laser Doppler anemometry
  • Hydraulic development of kinetic turbines
